Twenty-eighth Sunday of Ordinary Time
Matthew 22:1– 14 — “The Wedding Banquet”
Dear brothers and sisters,
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us the parable of the wedding banquet. The king invites guests to the wedding feast of his son, but those who are invited refuse to come. So the king sends his servants to invite others, bringing people from the streets to fill the banquet hall.
This parable reminds us that God invites everyone to share in His Kingdom. His invitation is open to all, but we must be willing to respond.
The king also notices a guest who is not wearing a proper wedding garment. This reminds us that accepting God’s invitation is not enough; we must also prepare our hearts and live according to His teachings. Our faith must be seen not only in our words, but also in our actions.
Every day, the Lord invites us to come closer to Him. He waits for us in our churches, especially in the Blessed Sacrament. How often do we visit Him? How often do we take time to greet Him, pray to Him, and thank Him for His blessings?
God calls us daily, but do we respond to His invitation? Or do we set Him aside because we are too busy with work, school, business, and the many demands of life?
Let us remember that everything we have is a gift from God. We do not truly own these blessings; we are stewards of the gifts God has entrusted to us. Our time, talents, resources, and opportunities should help us grow closer to Him and serve others.
May we never be too busy to accept the Lord’s invitation. Let us prepare our hearts, live our faith
through our actions, and joyfully take our place at the Lord’s banquet.
