Baptism of our Lord
|
My dear brothers and sisters, Today we are celebrating the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord which marks the conclusion of the Christmas season and ushers us into the Ordinary Time, a brief but meaningful period before we once again enter the sacred and Holy Season of Lent.
As Jesus steps into the waters of the river Jordan, He sanctifies the waters and reveals His identity as the Beloved Son of the Father, “this is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Today, Jesus’ baptism reminds of our own baptism of who we are before God. Today also, we are reminded of our baptismal promises made by our very selves or by our parents and god-parents, we recall our solemn promises: to reject Satan, to renounce all his works and to turn away from his empty and false promises. Can we do that? We also renew our profession of faith, reaffirming our belief in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as expressed in the twelve articles of the Creed. |
As we leave the church, “go in peace,” may we go out with a renewed spirit, strengthened by our baptismal identity, ready to live as beloved adoptive sons and daughters of God, by virtue of our baptism, faithfully walking with Christ in the days ahead.
