Today’s readings invite us to become great in the sight of God by doing God’s will as Jesus did, surrendering our lives to Him in the service of others.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives us a glimpse of what walking that path of righteousness, mentioned in the first and second readings, looks like in action — welcoming and serving the vulnerable in our midst, especially children, the poor, the mentally ill, and the marginalized. Jesus also teaches his apostles that child-like humility and selfless service make one great in the eyes of God.
This weekend, let us pray for the true spirit of service, for an attitude of love for those around us. May the Holy Spirit help us to become truly great through humble, selfless service.
Annual Fall Clean-Up; Saturday, October5 from 9 am - 2 pm. Volunteers are needed to attend to maintenance issues of our parish campus. Below is a list of what needs to be done. It is a start, there is much more to do.
Landscape work includes cutting down shrubs and dead branches from trees, digging out tree suckers in the back field, raking and cleaning up the parking lot islands, and weeding the flower beds.
Painting the curbs.
Cleaning and conditioning the pews and other woodwork.
Trimming the shrubs and trees around the rectory
Washing windows.
Volunteers should bring their own gloves, safety glasses, and appropriate footwear. We also ask everyone to bring tools such as chainsaws, rakes, brooms, wheel barrels, and shovels.
If you cannot help with the physical labor, please join us by bringing breakfast, snacks, and lunch items! They are a great addition!
There is a sign-up sheet in the back of the church. We look forward to and thank you for your help, ahead of time! Also in the gathering space of the church this weekend are representatives of the Knights of Columbus, once again, I encourage you to consider joining this wonderful Catholic fraternity.
