There are many ways to volunteer at St. Martin De Porres Church, including your time, talent, and treasure. Some of these opportunities benefit our parish community, while others reach out to the greater community.
Below are a few ways you can help. Click on the selection below to learn more about volunteering in that capacity. |
Confirmation Ceremony and reception
Confirmation usually takes place in the spring and is scheduled by the diocese. Volunteers are needed to usher, greet, serve, and bare witness to the blessing of the Confirmandi. If you are able to help, please contact the parish office at 801-968-2369. First communion Ceremony and Reception
The sacrament of the First Communion takes place in the spring, with the date scheduled by the parish. Volunteers are needed to usher, greet, serve, and bare witness to the blessing of the First Communicants. If you are able to help, please contact the parish office at 801-968-2369. Mother's Day Cards for Prisoners
Inspired by the book Holy Moments, the CCW collects Mother's Day Cards with Stamps for incarcerated prisoners to give to their mothers or mother figure. Please consider having that Holy Moment and help bring love to a place that is need of feelings God's Love. This small gesture will bring out the light of our Lord in that moment and give them hope in a place where darkness can dwell. This is a blessing we all get to take part in. To be able to supply each inmate with a Mother’s Day card we would have to collect over 3000 cards. Deacon visits about 60 inmates at one of the housing units regularly and distributes these cards to those incarcerated at that location. The CCW collects these cards during the month of April by placing boxes in the gathering space and at their April meeting. Religious Supplies for the Salt Lake County Jail and Oxbow Facilities
Deacon has secured Rosaries, prayer books and prayer and saint cards from Dismas Ministries. These objects of faith and devotion inspire, give hope and share God’s love in a very tangible way. Any donated items, books, Bibles or periodicals must be without sticky labels, staples or a hardcover. They are then subject to approval by the Programs staff. If you would like to purchase or donate to this cause, please go to Dismas Ministries on the internet. All items can be given to Deacon Joaquín. https://www.catholicprisonministries.org/listing/dismas-ministries Bereavement Ministry
We have an amazing Bereavement Ministry at St. Martin de Porres. The Bereavement Ministry was created to help and serve our loved ones through a very difficult moment. Some families like to be able to gather in the parish hall and break bread after the funeral services. To help the families focus on the day and not the task, the Bereavement Ministry helps by providing donated desserts, sets up the parish, serve at the reception and clean up. The Bereavement Ministry always welcomes new volunteers and donations. If you would like sign-up to support the Bereavement Ministry with donations of desserts and/or your time, please contact the parish office at 801-968-2369. Veterans/Memorial Day Donation Drive
There are many items that Veterans need. A majority of these donations are received in December and by May all those supplies are depleted. Volunteers are needed to help collect the items after each Mass. The support that St. Martin de Porres provided through the years has been greatly appreciated. We hope to continue helping our Veterans and our community with sharing our love and support. If you would like to help, please contact the parish office at 801-968-2369. Teaching CCD Classes
You do not have to be a theologian or a teacher to teach a CCD class, just someone who wants to share their love of God with children. If you would like to help, please contact the parish office at 801-968-2369. Snow Removal
During the winter months, help will be needed to clear the snow from the parish paths, steps, and parking lot. |
